Vasilly's list

I'm going to read a book a month at least. But since I'm reading so many memoirs right now, this list might change.

Easter Everywhere - Darcey Steinke
Educating Alice - Alice Steinbach
Circling my Mother - Mary Gordon
Like family: growing up in other people's house - Paula Mclain
The Last American Man - Elizabeth Gilbert
The Scent of God - Beryl Singleton Bissell
The Water will hold you - Lindsey Crittendon
Riding the bus with my sister - Rachel Simon
Patrimony - Philip Roth
Autobiography of a face - Lucy Grealy
George and Sam - Charlotte Moore
Truth and Beauty: a friendship - Ann Patchett

Alternates:
The diving bell and the butterfly: a memoir of life in death - Jean-Dominique Bauby
Istanbul - Orhan Pamuk
A life in smoke - Julia Hansen
Ambulance Girl - Jane Stern
The $64 tomato - William Alexander

oo vasilly- I read both Truth and Beauty and Autobiography of a Face this summer, and in that order. Read autobiography of a face FIRST. You'll enjoy it more.
Both were excellent, I just wish I had read them the other way before I knew the rest of the story

Thanks, Dana.

Yes. Definitely Autobiography of a Face first and then Truth and Beauty. Both wonderful books. Ann Patchett was Lucy Greely's long-time and extraordinary friend. She wrote Truth and Beauty (the story of their friendship) after Lucy's untimely death.

I hope my book The Scent of God will stay on your list. ;-)

I'm almost through reading Bel Canto by Ann Patchett. I would like to read more by her, so maybe I'll add Truth and Beauty to my list.

The Scent of God sounds interesting, too.

I loved Istanbul, very lyrical and melancholy

Beryl, I can't wait to read your book. I'll probably end up reading it before January.
